On the first anniversary of the public violence and disorder that flared up around foreign nationals working in Bahrain, the British Embassy have placed Bahrain armed forces on standby, ready to serve British expats by ensuring their safety.
London, UK (Pryce Warner International) February, 2012 - Evacuation plans took overall precedence at a recent meeting held in Adliya, when British Ambassador Iain Lindsay alongside other Embassy officials deliberated the numerous scenarios and eventualities of the civil unrest surrounding expats in Bahrain.
Lindsay commented on the actions taken by the British Embassy: “Although we are only a small embassy, we are taking all measures possible to ensure the safety of British citizens here in Bahrain. While I am confident that security forces have a grip on the situation, we have put contingency plans in place if it comes to a worst case scenario. February 14th is only the beginning and so throughout the month and next month, the British Embassy will be in discussions with the Bahrain government to help ensure our citizens safety.”
After last year’s disruption, allaying the escalating fears of Bahrain’s British community has been seen as a task of paramount importance, and reassurance has been instilled via a number of methods including online updates from LOCATE.

Another supportive scheme to the British Embassy is Bahrain’s renewed Warden system, which uses British expat information registered on LOCATE to keep all concerned parties informed of any developments and to contact them directly should the need arise.
Evacuation via land, sea or air is a vital last resort of the contingency plans now in place. The online service is specifically designed for Brits in Bahrain and as well as security updates and current travel advice, provides registration with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office upon joining.
