British Expats Cancel Plans To Come Home

A new survey has revealed that British Expats much prefer life abroad and have little intention of returning home

London, UK (Pryce Warner International) October 26th, 2011 – Scores of Expats are choosing to remain overseas and are cancelling plans to return to the UK.

According to a new study roughly 15% of Expats have reconsidered returning home in the last year. Up to 69% of those surveyed commented that they would rather stay overseas indefinitely which is a 13% rise on last years results.

The principal reasons for wanting to remain abroad were reportedly better quality of life, better finances and lower costs of living. Respondents also commented that in the wake of the London riots they felt that they were safer overseas. 74% of people said that they felt life was better overseas.

Most Britons abroad also felt that they had more money living overseas (64%) and that their cost of living was lower (52%).

Many also commented that opportunities for raising children were predominantly better overseas, as neighbourhoods were safer, they can pick up a second language and schools were better. Parents also pointed out that with the rise in tuition fees they were much keener to remain abroad and send their children to local universities.

Despite problems in the Eurozone, many Expats would rather remain abroad as they feel that the economic prospects in the UK are the same or worse. Some Expats have commented that very few people they know are choosing to return to the UK, and those that do are often the victims of circumstance and have little choice.

David Harra, a Senior Market & Investment Analyst with Pryce Warner International, a Financial Services Provider for Expats, commented: “Considering the state of the UK economy and the overall perception that is presented through the media, it is easily understandable why many Expats would prefer to remain abroad. Between the riots, rising inflation and a recession, there are few reasons why people would want to return. Despite the financial problems in the Eurozone the Expats surveyed are generally correct that costs of living is lower and income higher in Europe. This is especially true for Expats that take advantage of specific investment opportunities available to them, of which there are many available.”
