11m Britons Expected To Live To 100

New Statistics issued by the UK’s Department for Work and Pensions have shown that life expectancy is rising sharply in Britain, with over 11m people currently expected to reach the age of 100.

London, UK (Pryce Warner International) April 27th, 2011 - The majority of the 11m are presently under 16, raising the prospect that many young people today can expect to spend almost a third of their lives in retirement.

Historically people expected to spend anywhere between 10-20 years in retirement but this increase means that the low basic state pension will leave many people poorly provided for in the latter third of their lives.

Increases in the quality of healthcare provision also mean that people will not only live longer, but will continue to be active throughout most of their lives.
