From the 6th of April the cost of visa fees to the UK will increase
London, UK (Pryce Warner International) February 15th, 2012 – Immigration minister Damian Green made the announcement earlier this week stating: “It is only fair that those who use and benefit from the immigration system contribute a higher share of the cost of running it.”
The increase will be approximately 2% in most cases but some visas will see a higher increase in fees. The rise in costs was deemed necessary after a routine check of the visa process, which occur at regular intervals to ensure that costs remain tied to value of service.

Before the changes come into place they will be set out in regulations before both houses of Parliament and will be subject to an affirmative legislative procedure. There is presently no opposition to the fee rise, meaning it should come into force from April 6th 2012.
Some of the visas set to increase in cost are settlement visas, which will now cost £826. Ten-year visas will now cost £716 and a general ICT visa will increase from £400 to £480. Despite this fee rise some visas will not change. For example, short-term student visas will remain at the cost of £140.
