ID Card Deadline Extended For Emirates Expats

Expats in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi whose residence visas expire this year will receive a deadline extension

London, UK (Pryce Warner International) January 18th, 2012 – Affected Expats will be able to register and renew their ID cards at the same time they renew their visas. In such cases Expats will also be exempt from paying fines according to the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA).

This new rule is set to benefit approximately 683 000 foreign nationals.

In October of last year EIDA stated that foreign nationals would have to renew their ID cards by Ocotber 31st 2011 and that the late charge would be 20Dh per day.

However, due to pressure from an overwhelming proportion of the population, registration deadlines were pushed back. The objections mainly came from the large number of unskilled and manual labourers in the UAE.

The new deadlines are; February 1st in Sharjah, April 1st in Abu Dhabi and June 1st in Dubai.
