As of April 2012 Expats in Dubai will be required to register for ID cards in order to be able to renew their visas
London, UK (Pryce Warner International) December 19th, 2011 – The ID cards will be also necessary for Expats to be able to complete the medical tests that are a requirement for visa applications.
Dubai is currently the only city in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) in which these rules do not apply but this will change from the 1st of April 2012.

While the new requirements were intended to start next month, they have had to be pushed back as the registration facilities were not ready in time. The centres will be the biggest of their kind in the country and will be able to process 3600 people per day.
Though the rules are not currently in force, anyone working in one of Tecom’s 11 free zones has needed to register for an ID card prior to renewing their visa since June.
Expats will face daily fines from 2012 for failing to have a valid identity card. Sharjah residents will be charged from February 1st, Abu Dhabi from April 1st and Dubai from June 1st. The Northern Emirates applied the ruling from December 1st this year.
