Shanghai Expats Win Magnolia Award

A Dozen Expats in Shanghai have received the Magnolia Gold Award

London, UK (Pryce Warner International) October 3rd, 2011 – The Magnolia Gold Award, Shanghai’s highest honour for Expats, has been awarded to 12 Expats for their contribution to the city’s economic and social development.

The Expats that received the award represent a global cross-section of Expats, with winners coming from the UK, US, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany and The Netherlands.

247 Expats have received the honor since it was first introduced in 1993.

Winners received a certificate and a gold medal in a special ceremony held at Shanghai’s city hall.

One of the winners, Nancy Gougarty, commented on behalf of the winners: "Since I arrived in Shanghai in 1997," she said, "I've seen tremendous changes in Shanghai. I proudly tell my friends and colleagues it's a true pleasure and privilege to live in Shanghai."

She continued: "The honor provides great encouragement to continue our contributions in Shanghai. We will continue to serve Shanghai loyally and with pride."

Vice Mayor Tu Guangshao went on to thank the Expats on behalf of Shanghai’s 23 million residents for their numerous contributions to the city over the years. He commented: "All the achievements that we achieved have everything to do with your hard efforts, wisdom and devotion. You deserve this great honor, and the citizens of Shanghai will remember forever your contribution and your friendship."

Awards were received for a diverse range of contributions as well as professions. Winners included professors, businessmen and medical professionals.
