A new survey has shown that British Expats miss the countryside more than anything else when living abroad
London, UK (Pryce Warner International) February 10th, 2012 - The survey was recently conducted by Lloyds TSB International in order to learn which three aspects of UK life were missed most by British expats; whilst the somewhat surprising results revealed that 69% of expats preferred life abroad, just under half of the 1034 participants still shared a mutual longing.
51% of British expats living in Australia missed pubs the most, the third of the three things which were most missed by 41% of expats. Secondly came British humour; most missed by 42% of expats and 65% of all Germany-based Brits.
Taking first place ahead of all other aspects of British life, with 46% of the votes, was the British countryside which was notably missed more by those living in the UAE than anywhere else.

Speaking on behalf of Lloyds TSB International, survey commissioner Nicholas Boys Smith commented: “Many expats have an element of the adventurer about them, but they still long for certain aspects of British life that some people here might take for granted. An overwhelming majority are happy with their life overseas, but the British countryside, as well as our sense of humour and the great British pub, are all things that they miss abroad. Often you don't know what you've got till it's gone so it speaks glowingly of our countryside that expats around the world miss it so much.”
5% of participants said the thing they were more than happy to turn their back on were British politics and another 5% citing the weather; 7% said they were actually happier living in Britain. It seems the sentiment, as relayed by Mr. Smith and his survey, is that you just can’t beat a pint and a bit of British banter in a beautiful country pub.
