The Shanghai Commission of Commerce is taking steps to encourage the expat employees of international companies to arrange Shanghai-based residence on a more permanent basis.
London, UK (Pryce Warner International) February, 2012 - To facilitate the idea and its plans to eradicate any unnecessary disruption during their annual visa application, new accommodative visa regulations may be introduced so as to mirror the specific details of any given expat employment contract.
In essence this will afford workers with (e.g.) a five year contract to simply continue for five years without facing the week-long visa application process they currently undergo whilst succumbing to reduced earnings and lowered productivity.
Longer lenient visas such as these are strictly designated to high ranking officials and businesspersons of a comparable calibre.

Chen Xianjin is the Vice Chairman of Shanghai’s Commission of Commerce; he commented on the proposals and why they’re so important for Shanghai revenue: "Foreign investment has been accounting for 30% of the city's total tax revenue while providing 30% of the city's job opportunities. The Shanghai Commission of Commerce is working with the city's exit and entry administration to allow foreign employees of multinational corporations' regional headquarters to have longer visa validity.”
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security are finalising social security details for foreign employees, but have stipulated that they must contribute financially along with their fellow Chinese residents, regardless of whether they may actually reap the benefits.
It’s also widely hoped that all such social proposals will be made soon, so as to bring an end to the mounting speculation regarding taxes, which are expected to rise and prove detrimental to business profitability and employee levels of income.
